In the summer of 2018, Sum Theatre presented an adaptation of the Syrian Folktale The Woodcutter and the Lion as our fifth season of Theatre in the Park. Over 7,000 individuals participated in the show, which was devised by the Sum Theatre ensemble, including Cultural Advisor Rana Mustafa and three other Syrian refugees. The story follows a Woodcutter who is forced by drought to travel to an island where a dangerous lion lives. A play about courage and friendship, audiences of all ages loved the original music and theatricality of this dazzling show.
"With a strong, meaningful story and good tunes, Sum Theatre has really outdone itself this year, and should see its growing fan base expand even more with The Woodcutter and the Lion." - The StarPhoenix, July 2017
