Nutana Talks was the culmination of an exploration of the artistic desires of the community of Nutana by Sum Theatre and the Nutana Community Association. Funded by the Saskatchewan Arts Board through an Explore and Develop grant, Sum Theatre conducted over 100 interviews with stakeholders in the Nutana area (e.g. residents, business owners, ministers, school children, senior citizens) about their perceptions of Nutana and their best creative ideas for the community. Nutana Talks, held on April 29th, 2015, was a free event that included a vote by community members on their favourite ideas as well as performances of original plays and music that used verbatim text from the interviews. The top voted ideas were then submitted to the Saskatchewan Arts Board as part of a successful grant application that has established Sum Theatre as the Artists in Residence in the community of Nutana from September 2015 to August 2017.
